A disgruntled former radiologist at Griffin Hospital allegedly hacked into the hospital’s records for a month following his termination.
The radiologist, whose name is unknown, was fired in February from a medical group that contracts with the hospital, reports FierceHealthIT. The physician scanned through the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) records of 957 patients and downloaded image files from 339 patients using passwords belonging to other employees.
The files did not include Social Security numbers or financial data.
Despite losing his hospital privileges Feb. 3, the radiologist continued to hack into the system from Feb. 4 to March 5. Hospital officials became aware of the situation Feb. 26, after patients said they had received unsolicited calls from the radiologist for radiology services at a competing hospital.
