Anonymous Tip Lines
Anonymous tip lines (via phone calls or texting) can go a long way in increasing contacts between students and staff. Of course districts and colleges have to figure out if they will partner with an outside agency or field calls themselves, then determine what resources and policies need to be in place to ensure the line’s effectiveness.
Fortunately, there’s only one metric officials need to track to gauge the effectiveness of the tip lines: the number of tips received. If you have a tip line but it hasn’t been seeing much activity, maybe it’s time to launch an awareness campaign or change the way students can contact it.
Grace says his team promotes an anonymous reporting program in Colorado called Safe2Tell. He noted that last year the program was a huge success, as Littleton had over 300 interventions as a result of tips submitted!
