Median Chief Salary by Student Population
The median annual salary for police chiefs and security directors at institutions of higher education has decreased from $75,000 in 2011 to $70,000 in 2015. Campus Safety magazine speculates that the apparent decrease may not be the result of a reduction in pay but may possibly be due to changes in campus police/security executive position designations to titles like vice president, chief security officer, etc. Interestingly enough, the median salaries for deputy chiefs/assistant directors; police lieutenants, captains and supervisors; police officers or sergeants; and junior emergency management personnel have all increased in the past four years.
