A mother is dead and a father is in jail after police say the couple overdosed in their child’s Cincinnati hospital room Jan. 6.

MaryAnn and Wesley Landers were found unconscious in the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center just hours after their youngest child, who is less than a year old, had successful surgery, according to wcpo.com.

Police say MaryAnn, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene while Wesley, 32, was taken into custody. Police found a handgun and three syringes in Wesley’s pockets, although his attorney claims he never intended to use the weapon.
