Sac State Officer Revives Soccer Player

Published: September 9, 2013

California State University, Sacramento Police Officer Thelma Matthews is being credited with saving the life of a 47-year-old man who was playing soccer in an adult league on Monday, reports KCRA.

Prior to Matthews arriving at the scene, another person had been administering CPR to the player for about 5 minutes with no results. The patient wasn’t breathing, was unconscious and didn’t have a pulse. The other person continued to administer CPR while Matthews took out an automated external defibrillator (AED) from the trunk of her patrol vehicle. She then shocked the patient once with the AED, which started the man’s heart beating again.

The man is in critical condition at a local hospital.
