2024 So. Cal. Hospital Security Officers of the Year

“UCLA Health Santa Monica Security Leadership Nominate Patrick Onwuasor for his immediate response to an incident that occurred on July 24, 2024, at approximately 1622 hours.

While posted at the UCLA Health Santa Monica Hospital Emergency Department, Patrick was notified of a person needing immediate medical attention, possibly a jumper who was laying on the sidewalk directly across the street from the ED. Patrick responded to the area and immediately assessed the situation. He took control of the scene and called security dispatch via radio with a description of the incident. Patrick requested assistance from additional security units. Patrick continued responding across the street to the location of the incident but was unable to render any aid due the victim’s severe visible injuries. While Patrick requested additional units to assist, he observed a Santa Monica Police vehicle pull up to the scene who stepped in and took over. Patrick continued to assist by providing crowd control along with providing constant updates via radio to dispatch who were able to contact and notify hospital Leadership. Even though Patrick was unable to render aid to the victim, his immediate response and assessment of the situation is appreciated being that this incident severely traumatized staff in the area and some whom responded to the emergency, as the victim was well known in the Santa Monica UCLA Health community.”
