“Earlier this year Security Officer Alan Edmon and Security Sergeant Alejandro Lopez were called to the front of the hospital to assist with a male who was walking into traffic and acting aggressively to the staff arriving to work. Security already had prior contact with the male earlier in the day and contacted a family member to pick him up. Due to male being altered and running into traffic Alan and Alejandro attempted to block traffic so the person would not be struck by vehicles driving by.
Without notice the male pulled a firearm from his pocket and fired the weapon into the security vehicle 10 times. Alejandro and Alan drove away and were not injured. The security vehicle was driven and stopped down the street and all traffic going to the direction of the person with a firearm was stopped. They were able to contact PBX and place hospital on lock down and call local police and give them a suspect description. They were more concerned for people in the hospital then their own safety at the time. They were able to stay calm in this stressful situation and worried about the patients and co-workers first. Due to their quick thinking they prevented anyone else to get hurt by getting the lock down of the hospital done quickly and prevented the public from having any contact with subject. The suspect left hospital and was involved with in another incident with local Sheriffs Department later that night.”
