Officer Edwin Jimenez (left) City of Hope
“Bike Officer Edwin Jimenez is considered to be an “Unsung Hero”, because he goes above and beyond on a daily basis without expecting a reward or 5-minutes of fame, because he believes in his profession. He arrives to work displaying a professional appearance, attitude and willingness to get the job done. Since Edwin’s arrival to City of Hope, he has a desire to make a difference, to learn and better understand what a true team environment is like. Even though he has a supervisory background, Edwin decided to start as a Security Officer. After speaking with Edwin at various times, I have learned that his mindset is on prevention. By no means does this minimize a heroic act, but Edwin believes that prevention is key, which minimizes the opportunity for a negative event. While patrolling, he seeks out security and safety concerns and escalate accordingly to support a secure environment. He remains visible to deter, quickly escorting unauthorized visitors off property in a customer service-oriented manner, while treating everyone the same. He responds quickly to emergent situations with confidence and professionalism. Even though he is doing his job, he does so in a professional manner displaying compassion and empathy at all times. He has a desire to learn what a true Healthcare Security Officer should be like and to support his efforts, he recently acquired the Certified Healthcare Security Officer designation (CHSO). Edwin, thank you for understanding the basic responsibility of a Healthcare Security Officer – Prevention!”
