“It is with great honor and pleasure that I nominate Stephanie Rizardo for the Healthcare Security Officer of the Year Award. Stephanie has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to her role, ensuring the safety and well-being of our medical facility. This year, her keen observation and quick actions helped mitigate two significant incidents.
During a routine patrol, Stephanie identified a major leak in the facility. Water, which was not only leaking from the pipes in the ceiling but also dirty, was accumulating in front of our retail pharmacy. Recognizing the potential damage this could cause, Stephanie immediately sprang into action. She contacted the facilities department and, in the meantime, placed a large bin under the leak to contain the water. As this occurred during the night shift when no facility technicians were on site, Stephanie stood by the leak for hours. She laid towels on the floor and diligently emptied the bin multiple times until the facilities team arrived. Her prompt and effective response prevented significant damage to the pharmacy, ensuring that it remained operational and that our patients could receive their much-needed medications without disruption.
In another remarkable instance, Stephanie was called to respond to a medical emergency involving an Environmental Services (EVS) employee. Upon arriving at the scene, she quickly recognized that the employee was exhibiting signs of a stroke. Without hesitation, Stephanie contacted medical staff, who confirmed that the individual was indeed having a stroke. She then coordinated the transportation of the EVS employee to a nearby stroke center, facilitating their timely treatment. Thanks to Stephanie’s swift actions, the employee’s life was saved, and I am happy to report that they are now recovering well.
Stephanie’s dedication to her role exemplifies the highest standards of service, observation, and integrity. Her actions not only reflect the core values of our facility, but they also embody the mission of City of Hope—providing hope and care to all who come through our doors. It is for these reasons that I believe Stephanie Rizardo is truly deserving of this award.”
