“On June 9, 2024, Officer Soriano encountered a high-risk situation involving a patient threatening self-harm with a knife. In a moment of extreme urgency, Officer Soriano quickly assessed the escalating danger and intervened decisively. Demonstrating remarkable courage, he approached the distressed individual and attempted to de-escalate the situation through calm and compassionate communication.
However, when it became clear that the threat was imminent, Officer Soriano bravely wrestled the knife away from the patient, preventing potential harm to both the individual and others in the area. His quick thinking and physical intervention were pivotal in averting what could have been a tragic outcome.
This heroic act went far beyond the expectations of his job description and showcased Officer Soriano’s exceptional courage, calmness under pressure, and commitment to safeguarding lives. His ability to manage a crisis while ensuring the well-being of a vulnerable individual reflects the very best of our profession.
Officer Soriano’s actions that day were not an isolated incident, but a continuation of his steadfast dedication to serving and protecting our community. His daily conduct, professionalism, and integrity make him an ideal candidate for Officer of the Year, as he consistently sets a high standard for all security professionals to follow.
