5. Ballistic Shields
As a graduation present last year, eighth graders and teachers at Saint Cornelius Catholic School in Chadds Ford, Penn., were given bullet-resistant shields to put in their backpacks, according to The New York Times.
The SafeShield is military tested and is able to stop handgun bullets and shotgun shells.
Fifteen students and 25 staff members were gifted the $150 shields by the company’s CEO, who is also the father of one of the students.
“It is their life now, which is very sad,” said principal Barbara Rosini. “But if it is something that will help keep our kids, or any child or any adult, safe, that is unfortunately where we are now.”
